What kind of cake do you serve at the wedding rehearsal of your son, who is a firefighter? Why, a fire truck, of course!
Lori’s son is getting married this weekend and she wanted to honor him at the rehearsal dinner. She needed the cake in a week, so I told her we’d see what we could do.
Deah and I had not made a fire truck cake so we began immediately researching firetrucks to create our design. I knew I wanted it on a base, so Wednesday night we made a base that we thought would resemble a firehouse – concrete floor, bricks on the outside (all made of fondant). Thursday night we carved, frosted and placed fondant on the truck part of the cake. Friday morning I detailed it. Because Deah was at work and the cake weighed 30 pounds, I called my daughter to help me deliver it.
When we arrived at the church, we noticed the area we were to place the cake. There was a statue honoring firefighters and pictures of the groom in his firefighting uniform. It was very moving and a fitting display to honor her son, the hero. We felt privileged to be a part of the occasion and wish the happy couple the very best.
This cake looks awesome…..my son-in-law (whom I affectionately call “Outlaw”)is also a firefighter and would love this!
