My neighbor’s birthday was Saturday. Her kids and husband requested a purse cake. The girls thought red would be a good color. I just don’t like working with a lot of red. The intense dye makes it taste bitter. So, on the second favorite color – green. Now, I’m a green person. I love green anywhere– walls, clothes, food, whatever. I just love green. So, green I can do. I selected an electric green. I know, the picture looks yellow but it is really green.
I started this cake looking to do an unstructured looking bag, kind of slouchy. As I attempted to apply the fondant I realized that slouchy takes work! I needed another set of hands but Myrene was out-of-town so I was out of luck. So, Plan B evolved. I think they will be pleased.
The cake is a citrus blend of orange, lemon and pineapple. (Is pineapple citrus? If not, it is now.) The result is a light summery flavored concoction. I was very pleased with it. The buttercream under the fondant is the same flavor and the fondant is buttercream flavor. However, the brown trim work is chocolate fondant and the writing is chocolate icing.
Keepin’ it Sweet!

I love the super cute cute purse cake you made for my auntie! Wish I could have been there to taste it. 🙂
